CULTURAL DIVERSITY DAY AT FORREST
On Monday, June 10th, Forrest Elementary School welcomed Debbie Huntinghawk and Brenda Stevens to share their stories and offer us an opportunity to celebrate together.
Debbie and Brenda are knowledge keepers who have had to learn about their heritage after many aspects of it had been lost to them. During the assembly, through the use of music, (drumming and singing), and sharing, Debbie emphasized the importance of keeping our heritage alive and being proud of who we are. After listening to Debbie and Brenda, and learning three songs, the classes dispersed to create individual story sticks.
What a great day it was growing and learning together about ourselves and others. We are all unique and all have gifts. So, if you happen to see a story stick, take a moment and ask the owner about it. We all have stories to share and what better way to do it than through music and art.....
